Surrey County Council has just launched a new reading strategy and initiative for Early Years, and at Banstead Bunnies whilst we do lots to promote and support early reading on a daily basis we are also getting involved.
‘The Big Read’ takesplace from September 2013- March 2014, and throughout this time we have some specific activities planned, that we would like you and your child to get involved with.
We are planning- a share a book achievement scheme (Oct-Xmas), donate a new book week (November), Parent/carer story reading in pre-school (January/February), and Stories in the woods (March). We have bookmarks, stickers, leaflets, certificates and book plates which children will receive throughout the BIG Read for participating.
In launching the big read we would like to introduce our TREE. You will see the tree quite often and it will be used for different Personal, Social and Emotional Development activities throughout the year.
We would like you and your child to tell us their favourite book/bedtime story. Just write it on the cards provided (using the pipe-cleaners to attach them), pop it on our tree. We will then share this information and some of the stories with the children during sessions at carpet times.
We hope you and your child will join in.
The reading strategy can be downloaded from the Surrey County Council website.
