Muddy Bunnies Outdoor Learning

Muddy Bunnies aims to inspire curiosity and autonomy as children explore the world around them. They are facilitated by their supportive adults to develop their ideas, deepen their understanding of the natural world and recognise their place within it. It is a place for growing minds to learn new skills and form the building blocks for future life and successes – all in the natural outdoor environment.

Our Muddy Bunnies Outdoor Learning offers a weekly session for children aged 2 years to school age, term time only throughout the year. Our sessions are held on Thursdays.

What is Outdoor Learning?

Outdoor Learning provides hands on learning experiences which help to develop confidence through progression, self-esteem, resilience, independence and creativity.

This is done through flexible planning, where children are encouraged to then direct their own learning as a catalyst from the leader. Staff then further support and ‘scaffold’ the children’s learning helping to further increase positive outcomes.

Activities

Children at Muddy Bunnies participate in a wide variety of fun and exciting activities. These can include digging, exploring, treasure hunts, map making and reading, den building, and tree climbing in the ‘wild’ yet controlled woodland, where they are involved in learning to assess risk and make sensible decisions. The activities are all linked through the four main principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage:

A UNIQUE CHILD that every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self assured.

POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person

ENABLING ENVIRONMENT The environment (the woodland) plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.

LEARNING AND DEVELOPING Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of learning and development are equally important.

Outdoor Learning also supports both the prime and specific areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Sessions are for all children who attend on Thursdays and suitable clothing must be worn.
